One of my fav authors is Karen Ehman. She’s probably one of your’s too, huh?
So when Karen Ehman’s upcoming book, Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in Self-Centered World, arrived in my mailbox, I knew it would be good. (Because it’s Karen Ehman, duh. *wink*)
But y’all … Never has a book of her’s convicted me so much, and made me want to live out its message.
Our culture is self-obsessed – in our schedules, relationships, and especially online. In the midst of this near-narcissism, we have forgotten the joy that comes from putting others first. Listen, Love, Repeat encourages us to embrace backwards living, listening for “heart drops”—hints from those in our lives who need encouragement—and then reaching out to them in practical and doable ways. As we scatter kindness, we get to see lives changed right before our eyes. Not only the lives of others, but our own lives as well. (from www.listenloverepeatbook.com)
Karen takes the idea of scattering kindness and puts life to it. With simple how-tos and suggestions (even recipes!) I’m not kidding when I say she makes living this message easy, my friends.

Having just moved to a new home, my personal favorite is the chapter called “Chipped Crock-pots and Stained Carpets.” In it, Karen discusses the idea of hospitality in and around our homes and how God calls us to use what He has given us to scatter kindness.
The definition of “scatter” is to throw in random directions various.
The definition of “kindness” is the quality of being friendly, generous and considerate.
I want to point something out …
It is not random that you happened upon this blog right now. Jesus strategically placed you on my site to read this – I truly believe that. He has given Karen a message that is important … because it is Jesus’ message. And it’s a simple one we can live out in our day-to-day.
While it may seem random to you and I, He is strategic in spreading the Gospel.
Jesus is calling you, me, Karen Ehman and the person you’re going to share this post with to scatter kindness.
To scatter His kindness.
He’s calling us to listen. Listen for heart drops.
He’s calling us to love. Love through our actions and not just emotions.
Then, He’s calling us to repeat it … over and over and over.
If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:17-18)

Last night at the football field a woman stood on the corner and waited with 3 of my kids so they didn't get hit by a car in the parking lot, while I chased the 4th down the sidewalk. She then asked if I needed any help. I wanted to say, "is water wet!", but I didn't. She was kind. And I was humiliated, again, by my kids
That was super nice of her. Don't be humiliated... because everyone knows kids are crazy. ;-) It takes a village, right?
Well, it was a few months ago and while I feel someone has been kind to me since then, this situation sticks out in my mind. I was leaving Kroger with a huge cart full of groceries when it started to pour down rain. A gentleman came up along side me and helped me load my groceries in the back of my car while I was getting the kids out of the rain
That's HUGE!! What a blessing! :-)

Two weeks ago, I was sitting in the infusion chair at the West Clinic, when one of the Wings Volunteers brought me a bag full of snacks that had been donated by Lausanne Students. Wish I could share a picture - the students decorated the brown paperlunch bags. SO CUTE!

I like to go out for lunch after church on Sunday. Last Sunday, I asked the waitress for my check and she said, "Oh, it's been paid for." So I asked if I could pay the bill she was holding in her hand. She said, "Don't you even want to know how much it's for?" I said, "No. I don't recognize you. Do you work here every Sunday at lunch?" She said "Yes." She hugged me when I left. <
I think C and I will have lots to talk about in the future.
