Grieving & Cherishing Your Loved Baby

“How are you doing?”

It’s a question I still get almost two months later. My answer?

“I’m good.”

Only if you’ve experienced pregnancy loss do you understand that your “good” really means “good enough.” You’re as good as you can be without your child living and thriving with you. As good as you can be considering your child is in heaven before you.

The week after my miscarriage, my literary agent connected me with Sarah Philpott. Sarah wrote the not-yet-released book, Loved Baby, with devotions for helping women grieve and cherish their child after pregnancy loss. I was blessed to receive a copy of the book from Sarah while going through my miscarriage. I am so thankful for the resource she’s providing on a such a tough topic.

After sharing my story here and on TODAY Parenting, I realized (through the overwhelming number of private messages and emails) pregnancy loss is something so many women experience, but hardly anybody talks about. I was grateful to chat with women who are or have gone through the same thing, but it was nice to have reference like Loved Baby to go back to when I couldn’t talk anymore.

Having experienced loss like this herself, Sarah does the hard work of not pointing, not telling, not commanding, not shaming but guiding, grieving and walking alongside women going through the same. She discusses some of the hardest parts of the grief, all of the physical, emotional and relational dirty work we must go through in the process. She does it as a PhD and a mother, both crucial perspectives.

Sarah and her publishers have graciously sent me not one, but two copies of Loved Baby to offer to women who need real talk and Christ-filled comfort, tips and strategies.

Are you that woman?

Do you know that woman?
